Does the Size of a Laptop Really Matter?

The question in computing has become, “Does computer portability really matter or is it more important to have an all powerful computer that allows you to fit every piece of software and save as many songs as will fit on your computer?” Another question may be whether the smaller dimensions are more useful or if the light-weight portability is the chief issue. I think the availability of different types of portable computers today lets us really personalize our productivity machines into something that works for us and doesn’t always have to be generic for the world.

The production release of the state of the art macbookair by Apple has really given us a choice with the size and weight and what kind of laptop we take around with us to work. At less than 3 pounds and wafer thin, we don’t have to get a workout every time we walk to work. It has a 13 inch LCD screen and a standard-size keyboard. Why wouldn’t I be interested? This is the very quality I have been calling for.

When I first previewed the pitch for the MacBook Air with a slim, easy to carry computer coming out of that manila envelope, I was just amazed. Now, that’s the solution I’ve been seeking for so long. Now it doesn’t have to be a major undertaking to take my portable computer with me any longer! No extra bag that can weigh likely as much as the laptop computer, no more sweating, no longer taking up more room than my suitcase! What a joy!

The age old question of whether size is relevant is in front of us now and my answer, when it comes to a compact computer is a reverberating, “yes, Yes, YES!” Size does matter as does weight. For me and my laptop smaller is as good as it gets.
